Junior Coach Application

Pay range is $900 - $1,400 for the season. Compensation to be discussed with the Gators Board

The Kingsgate Gators wish to promote swimming proficiency, competitive good will on the team; and foster an environment of friendship and inclusivity. The Gators are a medium-sized swim team located in the Kingsgate V neighborhood of Kirkland. Our team has roughly 125 participants ages 6 to 18. We are part of the Midlakes Swim League. The swim season runs from Mid May through the end of July.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist in swim practices, swim meets, and attend team events (such as pool parties, coaching clinics, and banquets) as assigned by the Head Coach, not to exceed 10 hours per week.
  2. Assist Coaches during swim practices by providing in-water support (typically during 8U, 9-10, 11-12 age groups). This could include, but is not limited to: hands-on work with swimmers, starts and turns, visual demos for drills, legal technique, etc
  3. Provide coach support as needed during swim meets.
  4. Ensure practices and meets occur in a safe and organized manner.
  5. Works to promote and enhance the Kingsgate Gators culture and spirit by leading team cheers and organizing team bonding activities as allowed by the Head Coach.
  6. Communicate timely, effectively, and professionally with swimmers, coaches, and families.
  7. Provides a safe, fun, and productive swim experience for all swimmers regardless of experience.
  8. Work mornings, nights and weekends as assigned by the Head Coach; must be willing to work outside in all weather conditions for extended periods.
  9. Other duties as assigned.

The Kingsgate Gators is founded on the spirit of community, family, and enjoyment of all families participating in team activities. As such, the Junior Coach should display the following qualities:

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Be a participating or past member of the Gators Swim Team.
  2. Must be at least 14 years old before first shift.
  3. Knowledge and understanding of competitive swimming.
  4. Knowledge and experience teaching swimming to a variety of abilities and levels.
  5. Candidates must enjoy working with a diverse group of swimmers.
  6. A genuine love of coaching and working with children.
  7. A commitment to the mission of the Midlakes Swim League.
  8. The ability to balance fun, growth, and competitiveness.

Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Midlakes Coaching requirements (More information found here)
    1. American Red Cross Standard First Aid certificate
    2. CPR
    3. SafeSport Training
    4. Either (1) Lifeguard Certification or (2) safety training for swim Coaches.
  2. 5+ years competitive swimming experience
  3. Self-Motivated and able to work independently without supervision.
  4. Grounded level headed personality in potentially stressful, high energy situations.
  5. Ability to take constructive feedback in a professional manner.
